Title: Novel Products, Protocols and Measures for Battling Nosocomial Infections

Sponsored by:

Brought to you by ICT magazine and the Infection Control Education Institute, registration for this Webinar is free and all registrants will receive a bonus e-book with additional support, information and science after the Webinar.

The Infection Control community recognizes that Hospital Acquired Infections (HAIs) affect patients, increase length of stay and are a financial drain on budgets and operating margins of health care facilities. Financial constraints often force facilities to review labor intensive services such as housekeeping which results in reducing staffing in this area to a bare minimum. We know that HAIs are controllable and preventable by rigorous infection prevention principles and we understand that using proper surface disinfection can prevent HAIs from occurring, however, current infection control guidelines are relatively vague with respect to disinfection of hospital surfaces and do not provide details on frequency, methods to be used or training to provide to Environmental Services Personnel.

In 2000, National Institutes of Health (NIH) and U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) personnel conducted a survey at a number of the District of Columbia (DC) hospitals. The investigators found that hospital housekeeping practices varied widely between institutions and there was no standardized training program for environmental services personnel. This Webinar will discuss the findings of the study that resulted from this survey and discuss how the use of an effective Environmental Services Professional training course combined with the use of effective cleaning protocols and disinfectants with realistic contact times can significantly reduce the rates of HAIs.
