Emily McCracken, MPH,, is hospital epidemiologist and director of infection control at Hamot Medical Center in Erie, Pa., where she has implemented new technologies and strategies to lead her department to make positive, evidence-driven process changes to increase patient safety and quality of care. McCracken holds a master of public health degree in epidemiology from the University of Minnesota's School of Public Health, where she focused primarily on clinical research and infectious diseases. Her interests in infection control began while working with the Department of Infectious Diseases, Epidemiology and Immunology at Children's Hospital of Minnesota, where she conducted clinical studies, including her master's thesis.
McCracken also worked for the Minnesota Department of Health in the division of Acute Disease Investigation and Control; her main focuses were ongoing foodborne illness surveillance, associated outbreak investigations, and a variety of MDH and CDC FoodNet studies. She is a frequent speaker on the subject of public reporting of healthcare-associated infections and best
practices in infection control and prevention. |
G.T. LaBorde, JD, earned his degrees in economics and law from Louisiana State University. After several years of business and trial law practice in New Orleans, LaBorde became co-founder and chief operating officer of MedMined Inc. MedMined was recently acquired by Cardinal Health, and since the acquisition, LaBorde also serves as a vice president of Cardinal Health.
He has lectured about the financial implications of nosocomial infections to APIC chapters across the United States, as well as to hospital executive groups, health insurance groups, hospital quality organizations, and business associations. He also serves as a frequent guest teacher to MBA/MHA students at the University of Alabama Business School.
