Healthcare associated infections are a serious
problem that must be addressed. In this Webinar you will
hear experts discuss the scope of the problem and
prevention techniques that have proven success. You will
also hear about key measures and recommendations,
solutions to transmissions along with infection control
challenges. Finally, two case studies will be presented
1) A Clostridium difficile outbreak on an
inpatient Oncology unit; and 2) Targeted use of active
surveillance cultures to detect MRSA in a busy suburban
hospital.
Presenters:
Angela
Michelle Bivens, MSN, RN, FNP-C, CIC, is a
certified infection control practitioner and
serves as national director for Premier Inc.’s
SafetySurveillor. Bivens has a decade of
experience in nursing education, infection control
and prevention, epidemiology and communicable
disease investigation. She also works part time as
a nurse practitioner. Bivens is currently in her
second year of post-graduate studies, working
toward her doctoral degree in public health and
epidemiology. Prior to accepting a position with
Premier Inc., she spent five years as an infection
control consultant for a large medical device
company. |
Patricia
A. Burns, RN, CIC, has served in the infection
control community for 31 years and has been
nationally certified in infection control for 16
years. She developed and co-manages the infection
control program for Kentucky’s acclaimed St.
Elizabeth Medical Center and has led
community-education projects. Burns has
participated in successful Joint Commission,
state, federal and Occupational Safety and Health
Administration inspections and has worked as an
infection control consultant for various local
agencies. |
