The reduction of surgical site infection (SSI) is a major goal of current patient safety initiatives. Skin flora contamination, the proliferation of antibiotic resistant bacteria, and hypothermia are just a few of the risk factors responsible for SSIs. Adjunctive non-pharmacologic technologies are to be considered to reduce the risk of SSI.
