Description:
Beware of the fomites! Did you know that 80 percent of all common infections, such as colds, flu, and diarrhea, are spread through the environment, with air, water, food, and fomites being the usual vehicles for transmission? Charles P. Gerba, PhD, BS, a professor in the Department of Soil, Water, and Environmental Science as well as the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics at the University of Arizona in Tucson, will explain the significance of fomites in disease transmission and identify areas where the greatest risk of transmission lies. Gerba has spent more than 30 years in the academic world as a professor, teaching in the fields of virology and epidemiology, environmental health, microbiology, and immunology. He has authored and co-authored more than a half-dozen books and hundreds of peer-reviewed journal articles.
